Defence Minister McGuinty Announces The First Project Under BOREALIS

The Government of Canada has announced the first project under its BOREALIS initiative: the creation of the Maritime Defence Innovation Secure Hub (DISH) in Halifax. This pilot hub is the first in a planned national network of secure facilities where researchers, industry, and government can co-develop and test emerging dual-use technologies that require classified handling. Alongside AI, biotechnology, autonomous systems, and space, quantum technologies are identified as a key focus area, reinforcing their growing role in Canada’s defence, security, and economic resilience agenda.
