Canada Impact+ Research Training Awards
The Canada Impact+ Research Training Awards are a new, one-time federal initiative designed to recruit top international and returning Canadian doctoral students and postdoctoral researchers to Canada. Administered by CIHR, NSERC, and SSHRC, the program supports research and training in priority areas such as advanced digital technologies (including AI, quantum, and cybersecurity), health and biotechnology, clean technology, climate resilience and the Arctic, food and water security, democratic and community resilience, manufacturing and advanced materials, and defence and dual-use technologies. Awards are valued at $40,000 per year for up to three years (doctoral) and $70,000 per year for up to two years (postdoctoral). The 2026 competition is now open, with Phase 1 institutional nomination deadlines on March 4, 2026 (8:00 p.m. ET).
As part of this opportunity, Dr. Joe Salfi (UBC) is currently seeking expressions of interest from PhD students and postdoctoral researchers to join his research group through CIRTA nominations in quantum science and technology, with research interests spanning multi-quantum dot circuits, superconducting–quantum dot systems, and coupled phonon–quantum dot circuits. Interested candidates should contact jsalfi@ece.ubc.ca by January 19, 2026, with a CV, a one-page statement outlining research vision and CIRTA fit, and 2–3 key publications or preprints. Check our Dr. Salfi’s LinkedIn post for further information.
