IYQ Announces The Quantum 100, Recognizing Global And Canadian Quantum Leaders

As part of the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology (IYQ), the Quantum 100 has been announced, celebrating 100 individuals around the world whose work is shaping the future of quantum science, technology, and societal impact. The list features strong representation from Canada and British Columbia, reflecting the country’s leadership across research, industry, education, and outreach. Canada’s honorees include:

  • Dr. Shohini Ghose, Chief Technology Officer, Quantum Algorithms Institute, recognized for leadership in quantum information science, education, equity in STEM, and responsible quantum innovation.

  • Dr. Stephanie Simmons, Chief Quantum Officer, Photonic Inc., recognized for advancing scalable, distributed quantum computing architectures.

  • Ella Meyer, Quantum Computing Outreach Coordinator, UBC Geering Up, recognized for expanding accessible and inclusive quantum education for K–12 learners.

  • Professor Andrea Damascelli, Scientific Director, Stewart Blusson Quantum Matter Institute, University of British Columbia, recognized for global leadership in quantum materials research, international collaboration, and inclusive talent development.

  • Professor Barry C. Sanders, Scientific Director, Quantum City, University of Calgary, recognized for quantum research, global education initiatives, and ecosystem-building.

  • Dr. Megan Lee, Managing Director, Quantum City, University of Calgary, recognized for strengthening inclusive, community-driven quantum innovation.

  • Dr. Itzel Lucio Martínez, Head of Product, Quantized Technologies Inc., recognized for advancing practical quantum communication and cryptography, and for bridging research, commercialization, and mentorship.

  • Dr. Bruna Shinohara de Mendonça, Staff Scientist, CMC Microsystems, recognized for contributions to quantum algorithms alongside impactful science communication and global quantum education.

  • Professor Urbasi Sinha, Professor and Canada Excellence Research Chair in Photonic Quantum Science and Technologies, recognized for experimental breakthroughs and leadership in quantum photonics and quantum communication.

As part of the announcement, IYQ also honored and celebrated the legacy of Professor Raymond Laflamme, a trailblazer of quantum information science and a foundational leader of Canada’s quantum ecosystem.
